“Sleeping Dogs Lie” doesn’t pretend to be more than it is: a blunt, provocative comedy sketch whose visual look is almost as bare as that of an episode of the underappreciated Home Box Office series “Lucky Louie.” The acting, especially by Ms. A loser and crystal meth addict who has moved back home, Dougie finally has the ammunition he has always craved to use against his sister, a model child whose doting parents call her their diamond girl. Her confession, which takes place during the weekend she takes him home to meet her parents, is overheard by her resentful brother, Dougie (Jack Plotnick). Cut to a few minutes later as she is frantically cleaning up, her face contorted in disgust.

As Amy gazes blankly at her pet, he rolls over on his back. And in the movie’s opening scene, we see everything but the act itself. As a bored 18-year-old college student, she confesses, she once performed oral sex on her dog. It isn’t long before John browbeats Amy into disclosing another secret, and this time she reluctantly tells the truth. This fantasy immediately stimulates John, and they trot off to bed. Cajoled by her fiancé into confiding a secret she has never told anyone, Amy lies, saying she had sex with her best friend, Linda (Morgan Murphy). Once it has been contaminated, the ripest fantasy out of a Victoria’s Secret catalog can’t overcome an underlying squeamishness about carnal behavior.Īmy (Melinda Page Hamilton) and John (Bryce Johnson), an attractive young engaged couple, are on the track to wedded bliss.

We’d best keep our sexual secrets to ourselves, lest we inflame our partners’ imaginations with threatening images from the past, the movie advises. Yuck! The uncomfortable message sent by Bobcat Goldthwait’s lean, subversive comedy “Sleeping Dogs Lie” is how easy it is to gross out people who think they’re so swinging and cool.
